Who says girls aren’t funny?
We’re fed up with blokes hogging the comedy spotlight, so now it’s time to show some solidarity as two of the UK’s funniest women come to town.
Every month for the past 19 years, award-winning comedy institution The Laughter Factory has brought three top comedians to the UAE.
But they’ve nearly always been guys.
In March, all that’s set to change as the girls are taking over – we’re putting two female comics on the bill for the very first time (as well as one bloke, so people don’t say we’re sexist).
And that’s not all, also in celebration of International Women’s Day – which falls on March 8 – we’re offering a night of free laughs to pregnant women. Why? Because happy mums, make happy babies.
At venues across Dubai in March, The Laughter Factory will host two of the UK’s hottest female comics: Time Out London’s Best Female Comic winner Mandy Knight and Ellie Taylor, star of ITV’s Show Me the Funny.
However the girls will have some friendly competition from Steve Shanyaski, a regular on the UK circuit often spotted onstage at all the top clubs, including The Comedy Store, Glee Club, and Jongleurs.
As always, all three comics have been handpicked by the funny people at The Comedy Store.
Research has proved that a child’s personality is shaped by the health and mood of the mother. Laughing, meanwhile, does a world of good, flooding the body with “happy chemicals” that can be detected up to 24 hours later.
See below for gig dates. Any pregnant women with a visible “baby bump” will be admitted to shows at The Laughter Factory’s non-smoking venues: the Mövenpick Hotel JBR and Grand Millennium TECOM.

Introducing… The Laughter Factory “Comedy Brunch”
All-new for 2016, The Laughter Factory recently launched the UAE’s first “comedy brunch”.
That’s right: food, drinks and laughs, all under one roof… what could make a funner – or funnier – night?
The all inclusive-package offers comedy fans the chance to warm up for the show with an international buffet from a five-star hotel, alongside free-flowing house beverages (including hops, grape and short drinks).
The “evening brunch” package is available for two hours before the gigs (7pm-9pm) at the Mövenpick Hotel JBR and Grand Millenium TECOM venues only, and costs just Dhs320 (or Dhs280 for soft drinks) – including entry to the gig (normally Dhs140).
